Déjà Vu: When Today Feels Like Yesterday

There is something fascinating about the way memories can resurface when we least expect them. A familiar melody, the warmth of a coffee shop, or the sound of someone laughing can suddenly transport us to a moment we thought had long passed. This universal experience of nostalgia and remembrance lies at the heart of “Too Many Things Remind Me Of You (Déjà Vu),” a track featured on my latest album, Volume Six (Evanescence), and the Too Many Things Remind Me Of You EP.

Based on my original poem, the song tells a fictional story of love, separation, and the unanswered questions that sometimes accompany an unexpected goodbye. Its central character finds himself surrounded by reminders of someone who disappeared from his life without explanation. Familiar places and ordinary encounters become emotional connections to a past that can no longer be revisited.

What makes this narrative particularly compelling is the contrast between remembrance and acceptance. Although the protagonist continues to struggle with the absence of someone he once loved, his reflections gradually reveal a quieter sentiment: the hope that this person has found happiness, even if their paths never cross again.

The Déjà Vu edition offers another musical interpretation of this story, combining melodic arrangements and an atmospheric soundscape that complements the poem’s themes of longing and nostalgia. Its accompanying cinematic music video expands upon the narrative through visual storytelling, illustrating how memories can remain vivid even as the years pass.

The release of this official music video also commemorates the arrival of my Volume Six (Evanescence) Deluxe Edition Double-CD on October 16, 2026. This expanded physical edition presents the album across two discs, offering both the original vocal recordings and their instrumental counterparts. “Too Many Things Remind Me Of You (Déjà Vu)” appears as Track 5 on Disc 1, while its instrumental version occupies Track 5 on Disc 2, allowing listeners to experience the composition through two complementary musical perspectives.

For me, the creative appeal of adapting poetry into music lies in exploring how fictional narratives and universal emotions can take on new dimensions through melody, arrangement, and imagery. “Too Many Things Remind Me Of You (Déjà Vu)” continues that approach, inviting listeners to reflect on the delicate relationship between memory, love, and the passage of time.

Both Volume Six (Evanescence) and the Too Many Things Remind Me Of You EP are available now on Vinyl and CD through ElasticStage.com. Digital editions are also available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music Unlimited.
