A New Chapter: Why I’m Moving Away From Music Streaming Platforms

by Christopher Louie Poetry

After much consideration, I’ve decided to begin transitioning away from traditional music streaming platforms and focus my future music releases on YouTube, where I can bring my poetry and songwriting to life through cinematic music videos.

While my existing recordings may remain available on streaming services during this transition, I will no longer be prioritizing traditional digital distribution as part of my creative direction.

This decision has been on my mind for quite some time. While streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music have provided a place for my music to exist, the reality is that my recordings have attracted relatively few monthly listeners.

I had already been questioning whether it made sense to continue paying for digital distribution when the financial returns weren’t worth the investment. Eventually, I began asking myself a simple question: Why continue investing in a distribution model that isn’t working for me when I could direct that same energy and resources toward the creative work I enjoy most?

And so, I’ve decided that it’s time for a change.

Music Has Always Been About More Than Streaming Numbers

When I began transforming my poetry into music, my goal wasn’t simply to accumulate streams or compete for positions on digital charts.

I wanted to give my words another dimension.

A poem can tell a story through language, but music allows that story to unfold through melody, rhythm, atmosphere, and emotion. Add moving images, and an entirely different world begins to emerge.

Characters become recognizable. Places take on meaning. Relationships develop across different stories. Moments that once existed only on the written page can now be experienced through sound and cinema.

That combination of poetry, music, and visual storytelling has become a defining part of Christopher Louie Poetry.

Yet traditional music streaming platforms are primarily designed around listening. While they provide convenience and accessibility, they don’t necessarily offer the complete artistic experience I want to share.

For me, the visual presentation is not merely promotional material accompanying a song. It is part of the storytelling itself.

The Reality of Independent Music Distribution

There is no denying that today’s music industry presents enormous challenges for independent creators.

Millions of recordings compete for attention across streaming platforms, and simply making music available does not guarantee that listeners will discover it.

For an independent artist operating without a major record label, a substantial advertising budget, or an established audience, visibility can be particularly difficult to achieve.

As an independent musician who combines original poetry and songwriting with digital music production, I’ve also come to recognize the challenges of reaching new audiences in an increasingly competitive streaming environment.

While modern production technologies have expanded the creative possibilities available to independent artists, making music accessible on streaming platforms doesn’t necessarily mean it will reach the listeners who might appreciate it.

The growing debate surrounding AI-generated music has also become another consideration in my decision. As streaming platforms introduce new policies and restrictions surrounding AI-produced recordings, the landscape continues to evolve for independent musicians who incorporate these technologies into their creative work. While some streaming services continue to accept AI-assisted music, certain platforms have introduced restrictions affecting algorithmic recommendations, editorial visibility, and monetization eligibility for particular categories of AI-generated content. These policies vary considerably between services, and the acceptance of AI-assisted recordings does not necessarily guarantee promotional opportunities or meaningful streaming revenue.

While I understand the importance of protecting artists’ rights and maintaining transparency, I also believe that technology can serve as a valuable creative instrument when guided by original songwriting, imagination, and artistic direction.

Rather than continuing to focus my resources on digital distribution that has generated limited engagement, I’ve decided to concentrate on the creative experience that best represents my work: continuing to bring my music and poetry to life through cinematic storytelling on YouTube.

For some artists, streaming distribution is an essential part of their careers. For others, a different approach may be more appropriate.

I’ve come to believe that my work deserves a presentation that reflects its visual and narrative ambitions, rather than relying primarily on streaming numbers to measure its reach.

This isn’t about abandoning music. It’s about changing how I choose to share it.

YouTube: Where Music and Storytelling Come Together

Moving forward, YouTube will become my primary destination for new music releases.

Rather than focusing on distributing individual audio recordings across numerous streaming services, I intend to concentrate on producing music videos that bring each composition to life.

My creative approach has increasingly involved building fictional worlds populated by characters whose experiences, relationships, and emotions unfold across different poems and songs.

Some stories explore the excitement of falling in love. Others examine heartbreak, betrayal, longing, reconciliation, devotion, or the passage of time.

These are imaginative narratives, each offering another glimpse into a larger creative universe.

Through cinematic imagery, music, and carefully developed storytelling, I want viewers to experience these works as something more than standalone recordings.

A song may last only a few minutes, but its characters and story can leave an impression long after the music ends.

That is the experience I want to continue developing.

A Different Way to Experience Christopher Louie Poetry

My official website, ChristopherLouiePoetry.com, will continue serving as the central home for my creative work.

Visitors will still be able to explore my poetry, music videos, behind-the-scenes features, and other creative projects.

Physical music releases, including CDs and vinyl records, will also remain an important part of how I present my work.

There is something meaningful about owning a physical album, particularly when its artwork, packaging, and accompanying imagery have been designed to complement the music.

Unlike a recording that exists only as an entry in a streaming library, a physical album offers a tangible connection to the creative work.

For listeners who prefer owning music rather than accessing it through a subscription service, physical editions will continue providing that option.

Meanwhile, YouTube will offer a way to experience my songs alongside the visual narratives that inspired them.

Creativity Beyond the Numbers

It’s easy to become preoccupied with statistics in today’s digital environment.

A song with millions of streams isn’t automatically more meaningful than one heard by a handful of people. Likewise, a beautifully produced music video doesn’t lose its creative value simply because it hasn’t reached a large audience.

At the same time, I recognize that reaching listeners matters. Sharing creative work is ultimately about making it accessible to people who may connect with its stories, melodies, and ideas.

My decision to focus on YouTube isn’t a rejection of audiences or commercial possibilities. It’s an attempt to build an audience through a format that better represents what I create.

I would rather invest my time in developing a compelling music video than continue maintaining a streaming distribution arrangement that has produced little meaningful return.

The Next Chapter

This change marks a new direction for Christopher Louie Poetry, but it doesn’t mean the end of the music.

There are still stories to tell, melodies to compose, characters to introduce, and fictional worlds to explore.

In many ways, this decision allows me to concentrate more fully on the creative possibilities that originally inspired me to combine poetry with music.

My future releases will place greater emphasis on cinematic storytelling, with YouTube serving as the primary platform for presenting new songs and their accompanying visual narratives.

To everyone who has discovered, listened to, watched, or supported my work, thank you.

Whether you’ve followed my poetry, enjoyed a music video, purchased a physical album, or simply taken a moment to explore my website, your interest is appreciated.

The music isn’t ending. Only the way I share it is changing.

And I look forward to bringing many more stories to life.
